Useful place to start for beginners

This book does touch on a lot of the basics of skincare, finding the right makeup for your complexion, etc. etc. I loved that she had a list of recommended shades and products according to different complexions and skin-types. Although some of the contents--basics of skincare for example--may feel like common information, she includes enough tips and pointers to make the book a worthwhile read. And her tips on Asian complexions--incredibly useful in a market full of products intended for fairer complexions!

Love Carmindy, but her book... not so much!

I just love Carmindy and I think she does wonderful transformations on What not to wear, but this book disapointed me. It gives really basic information, nothing very new. Also, I disagreed with some of the things she said, like that a toner isn't that important while it can transform any women's skin (if it has no alchool in it). So, if you aren't new to beauty and makeup books and articles, you can go through this book in an evening and learn a thing or two, but no more. If you are looking to purchase your first makeup book, this one can work though! It has beautiful pictures and makeup ideas according to age, hair color and skin color.

not bad

this book is ok. it just gives you a basic idea of how to put makeup on..although NOT IN five minutes...more like 10 .. it gives some special extras like how to do some certain types of makeup like smoky eyes and the nude look but it doesnt explain enough different types... not a bad book but not the greatest
