Excellent book!

Having read several photography books and many magazine and online tutorials, it's hard to rate this book with anything but 5 stars! Being a seasoned photographer is a prerequisite for anyone writing a book on the subject, however Scott Kelby also has the unique ability to convey complex concepts by using simple and easy to understand terms. I've never felt as confident in taking photos as I am after reading this book. If you're going to buy one book on photography, this should be it!

hands-on and practical

The author's humor is a bit annoying, but this is a very "hands-on" book for the beginner/intermediate photographer who wants to push further with his DSLR. Lots of tricks which will accelerate greatly your photography learning, especially if you've fiddled a bit with your camera.

Really good and easy-to-read.

I recently got my first DSLR (the Nikon D90) and found this book to be the perfect companion for it. I have glanced at a few photography books, but a glance was always as far as I got - they were often too boring, too long-winded and too focused on complicated theory. With 2 small children, my reading time is too brief and valuable to waste on huge intros and over-explanation!
This book helps me get the photos I want without bogging me down in boring theory. It also has some great tips for things like protecting your equipment. The short chapters get to the point quickly, and make a great book to pick up and put down easily. The author's humour also makes this an enjoyable read (even causing the occasional audible chuckle) - not often seen in a reference book!
