Customer Reviews:
Great book for what it sets out to accomplish
Photoshop is no doubt a huge and complex program. And I find many books on this type of software, no matter how many colour illustrations they use, to be very dry reading. This book on the other hand, does not set out to be one of these bibles. It is aimed squarely at the digital photographer and techniques that are more common to post processing (touch-ups, tweaking). And in that regard the book is superb- the processes are clear, step by step, and it's almost like getting a hands on session with a pro. Various sharpening, colour improvement, black & white, and skin softening techniques are offered, as well as things like whitening teeth, eliminating wrinkles, softening bright spots, and even dealing with double chins, love handles and performing digital nose jobs!
If I could have given the book 4.5 stars I would have. I am only taking away from a perfect score because almost nothing's perfect, the author uses too many keyboard shortcuts without including the menu/mouse-click equivalents, and his attempts at humour are...well let's just say I for one don't need to be "tickled" while I read an instructional book.
Great Book!
Scott Kelby's humouous writing style makes this a very easy and interesting book to read. When I first started reading the section on Adobe Bridge, I had no idea what it was, didn't even know that I had Bridge, and had no intentions of using it. But after reading this chapter, I started using it, and actually found out that Bridge is exactly what I needed right now. Perfect timing. I'm looking forward to doing all the lessons in the book, the step by step instructions really work.
a good starting book
a great book for someone starting up in photography and learning how to use Photoshop. You don't get to use every available tool in Photoshop. For that, you'll probably need a book dedicated to Photoshop CS3. But this book gives some very practical uses for a photographer.
