Every aspiring photographer must own one
|
This book is a must have, I read the whole thing in one read, and I can assure you that I will browse through it from time to time. Bryan Peterson explains everything step by step and after you're done, you'll understand reasonably well if not perfectly what he's trying to say.
If you're looking to go beyond amatuer and make that transition to take really good photos, here's a time saver. By going into the details of photography from line, shape, texture, to the rule of thirds to tips on macro photography, he starts by making you a serious photographical critic AND I assure you that you'll see things you never did before picking this book.
All in all, he makes you that much more fond of photography than you already are (otherwise you wouldn't be reading this review!). This is a book that i will be sure to thumb from time to time and is worth every cent spent if not more!

A casual book for novices

Nice photo examples, although neither really inspiring nor stunning. Technical details are superficial and sketchy. Not worth keeping it as a reference book.

A must have book for reference, learning and enjoyment!

I own the previous edition of this book, so I waited with anxious expectation for its revision. This is more than a revision, it's a brand new book, a necessary addition to the theory and practice of implementing creative vision in making photographs. I recommend this book to all who wish to receive inspiration and mentoring in realizing their own creative vision in photography and even general artistic picture making. The text is written in Bryan Peterson's inimitable down to earth, friendly yet knowledgeable style. The photographs are truly inspirational. This book is a keeper!

Well worth the wait

When I heard that this book was going to be revised, I waited for it in anxious anticipation - it was well worth the wait! Sometimes all that is needed to improve a composition is to change one's perspective, which is often pointed out in this book. This is something I'm learning to take advantage of, and can see the improvement in my pictures. I was also happy to see a section added dealing with color and one on digital imaging. If you've got a basic understanding of photography behind you, then I'd highly recommend this book!

New Pair of Eyes
|
|
This review is based on the revised version published in Oct 2003. Excellent pictures contained within and the author teaches you ways to see every day life through a new creative perspective. Following the instructions, you will soon find yourself also shooting on your belly or lying on your back for a whole new viewpoint. Many of us unfortunately only shoot from eye level or at a posture thats convenient and that itself limits creatively. This is one of the better reads I have come across. Worth every penny. Thank you Bryan, I have learned.
