Customer Reviews:
Helped me pass the PMP on my first try
This book was excellent. I read and did the exercises starting from page 1 and went right to the end. It's the only study guide you will need to pass the exam if you do as the book instructs. The online tutorial was also excellent. One week access to the material might not be quite enough but if you complete the book first then go to the online tutorial you should have enough time to get through it all. Plus you get 15 PDUs for completing the online work. The one problem I had was there were some formulas missing in chapter 4 but that has been corrected for subsequent printings of the 4th edition. When I called amazon customer service to complain they sent me a new book of the most recent printing.
Great Help
I passed the PMP exam on my first try - thanks in most part to this book! I found it was very well laid out and was presented in a manner that was simple and interesting to read. My studying consisted of reading Andy Crowe's book from front to back twice over. Then I complemented it with reading the HeadFirst PMP prep book which provided a unique way to reinforce the material I learned.

I didn't spend more than an hour looking through the PMBOK as I found it dry and boring. Once you're done all this, just do as many practice problems as you can get your hands on and you should be more than ready for the exam. The whole process took me a month of on and off studying.
Very Clear and very helpfull to pass the exam
I passed my PMP exam on my 1st try without attending a preparation course. In addition to reading the PMBOK, I purchased 2 books: PMP exam prep from Rita Mulcahy and The PMP exam from Andy Crowe.
My purpose when reading the books was just to pass the exam, not to become a better PM.
To me, the best prep book among the 2 is without doubt the book from Andy Crowe. Where the PMBOK is dry and too dense, Andy Crowe's books helps synthesise and gives very clear explanation. It is organized with the same chapters than the PMBOK, which makes it simple to study both together. My recommendation is to read the chapter in Andy's book 1st and then only to read the corresponding PMBOK chapter, it than seems less dry. At the end of each chapter, there is a small exam and at the end of the book there is a full exam.

The only drawback I could see is that in some areas Andy oversimplifies or is a little bit short and that the exam prep questions are simpler than the real ones. In cost management, Andy gives just the main formulas for earned value and I had 2 questions on the exam with other ETC formulas which Andy does not ask to learn. In procurement, it is very short.
According to me, Reading the PMBOK once, the book of Andy at least twice and practicing the test exams should be sufficient. In term of memorization, I memorized the formulas and the list of 44 processes organized by Process Group and knowledge areas (page 40 on Andy's book and table 3.45 in PMBOK, 3rd edition) and this helped me to find the inputs, outputs which you cannot memorize.

Good resource
This book is easy to read and it makes the project management process easy to understand. However, the practice questions are too easy unlike the typical exam questions. The recommendation of timing for the exam is underestimated. He mentions 75 questions in 45 min, etc.. I agree this would be the time to answer Crowe's questions but not the exam questions which are more difficult and trickier. I also used the PMBOK as a reference guide as well as questions from Rita Mulcahy which I found are more typical of the exam questions.
By the way, I passed on the first try.
Let's just say...It gets the job done
I've been a Project Manager for many years now, have always been interested in obtaining a PMP but never found the time or the right resources. This book is a perfect combination of both. It is easy reading and easy to understand. If you are disciplined enough to read the book, take good notes, take and review the practice exams you can also be a PMP very soon. I waited too long to accomplish this goal because I didn't know what tools to use. If you've found this page, you've found the right prep book to get the job done for you.
