Customer Reviews:
Fantastic Read
As a nurse and someone who loves learning about biology, this book was a fantastic read. I enjoyed every page and had a hard time putting it down. I highly recommend this book to anyone who enjoys what scientists have discovered about the human body in recent years. One of the best books I have read in a long time.
Pivotal
This is one of the two most pivotal books I have read in the past decade - and I am an avid reader. Lipton adhers to solid scientific methodology and presents his theories and conclusions in a most readable fashion. Lipton has lived his story, has transformed many lives, and presents this critical new discovery in an entertaining fashion. I look forward to a world that accepts epigenetics as an essential science and that builds on this knowledge to create an evolved healthcare system.
well written explanation of the new (true) biology
Dr. Lipton explains cellular biology in a clear and easily understood text. This book should be required reading for all 1st year bio or biochem majors. Dr. Lipton successfully rebukes the dogma of the DNA in our genes as having the ultimate control over our biology and our lives. Epigenetics is definitely the new and more significant focus of cellular biology. As a practicing physician the fact that diet trumps genes, (in fact diet, exercise, lifestyle, attitude and environment trumps genes) is an absolutely liberating fact and should be for all other doctors and their patients in these times of ever increasing rates of chronic disease. Dr. Lipton's scientific foundation is solid and for anyone interested in practicing medicine according to epigenetics where genotype does not necessarily lead to chronic disease-phenotype,I suggest that they contact the Institute of Functional Medicine for their clinical course material. As for Lillian's review, hmmm, simply put, I think she missed the point.
What a total load of horse-hockey
Between the low-quality "rah-rah-go-team you can do it if you believe" tripe, and the overhyped, incorrect deductions about quantum theory, this book is of even less quality than "Dianetics." The AmWay-esque nature of the various reviewers giving their raves here I can only explain as a pack of christian frothers praying desperately to find some way to arrogate personal belief above genuine reality.

Bad news, kids, the real world still exists, and microbes will still gleefully eat you if you don't deal with them. Tumors will still kill you, no matter what god you pray to. A broken neck will still paralyze you, regardless of how "right" you've been living.

While a positive attitude most certainly has been evidenced to help the healing process, belief in and of itself is not a curative agent. Didn't Mary Baker Eddy teach you all that when she died? For those of you who are wondering, she's the founder of Christian Science - which is the religion that can claim ownership of this "Power of Belief" idea. And for those who weren't aware, she's still dead.

I will stipulate, as I have done in the past for similar attempts to spin this fantasy, that this book's contents are worse than simply false: they are irresponsibly so. Praying at an illness or injury, while it may enhance your attitude (and thereby assist you in a minor way), will cost you in the long run if you allow it to occlude seeking genuine medical attention.

Particularly if what ails you threatens to kill you.

But then, if it ends up killing you because you were foolish enough to ignore your illness...Darwin (and good old Watson-and-Cricke biology) wins. How ironic.
You want a good entertaining book try ' The Quest ' by Giorgio Kostantinos.

A bridge between Science and Spirit
Finally, a book that provides some scientific insights as to how our thoughts can affect the physical body. With Dr. Lipton's knowledge on cellular biology, it brings to light a brand new understanding of how the body operates.

In layman's terms, Dr. Lipton is able to use cellular biology and quantum physics to explain the inner workings of our cells and how our environment turns our genes 'on' and 'off'. This theory may also provide an explanation on how alternative disciplinaries such as energy work, massage and homeopathic medicine help in promoting health.

The Epilogue is especially insightful as Dr. Lipton explains the relationship between spirit and science. I have always find it difficult to understand mind-bloggling spiritual sayings such as 'we are made in the image of the Universe/God' or 'we are all ONE', as well as the true meaning of 'self'. Dr. Lipton uses lively examples and easy-to-understand wording to explain these spritual notions with a scientific touch to them.

A very intriguing book to read. There is now more evidence that we do have a say in controlling our own health physically, mentally, emotionally as well as spiritually.

A must read for alternative health practitioners!
